Ahh it’s that time of year again. We’re starting to get over the end of ski season now that we’re a couple weeks out and now skating competition season is just getting started, we’ve had Vans Park Series, the first stop of Street League was this weekend and xgames starts next weekend in Japan. It’s gonna be a good summer of competition, street is probably just going to be dominated yet again by 4 time SLS World Champion and 8 time xgames gold medalist Nyjah Huston, but I’m fucking excited. This weekend was a great start and I cant wait to see what comes next in Street League.
There were a lot of people throwing down this weekend but the competition was focused on the top 4 of Shane O’Neil, Gustavo Ribeiro, Kelvin Hoefler, and Nyjah Huston.
The past couple years Kelvin Hoefler has been dominating street league and x games street. It seems like every competition ends with him and Nyjah going back and forth. He had a couple falls today though and wasn’t able to make the podium. His first best trick attempt was fuckin sexy though.
Shane O’Neal may have the biggest bag of complicated tricks in the world but he always has a hard time putting it together but he managed to get himself a 3rd today. He’s one of my favorite skaters to watch, he just floats across the course and makes extremely complicated tricks look easy.
Gustavo Ribeiro was extremely consistent today and I think that plus that nasty crooked grind are why he ended up in second today. That was a rough go on the first run for him hitting a rock and slamming but it may have helped cus he got to basically do a practice run before having his re run.
Ever since Nyjahs first run of the final there wasn’t any doubt in my mind that he was going to win. He is a fucking competition machine, the dude just wakes up wins major skating competitions like it’s nothing. Since he came onto the scene Nyjah has been the best street skater in the world and he’s probably the best competition skater of all time. The dude has 4 street league titles and 8 x games gold medals for christs sake. He just wins every competition he’s enters. The best part about the way Nyjah skates is that he has absolutely no problem with slamming really fucking hard. He hardly ever bails, he trys to hold on until the last second possible and is perfectly fine with slamming if he has to. But it also means that he lands tricks more consistently and does bigger and harder tricks. And he put that on display today with that first 9 in best trick. That board took fucking forever to flip around on the kickflip and he barely got it around in time to slide the rail. He ended with 4 9s and absolutely dominated his competition.
